The State of the Union, Who's to Blame?

Ronnie Manns
Message Ronnie Manns

There truly is enough blame to go around regarding the state of our nation but there is also an honest truth that few are addressing. That honest truth is whom we really should be holding accountable for the journey of this country.

I say that the person most responsible for the state of our union is us. We sit in the comfort of our homes and in our own little world and expect those we elect to represent us to deliver unto us our every desire. Knowing that this will never happen yet we still dare to dream. We are responsible because we hire them. We are responsible because we do not fire them when they cease doing their jobs. We are responsible for the "fleecing of America because we fail to hold them accountable. When they are caught, we offer forgiveness and instead of being grateful, just like an abusive boyfriend or husband, they promise to change but the only changes are their methods. They only thing they learned was how to be more careful next time. Until we begin to except the responsibility of those we elect, we will always be treated as children and promised things that will never come true.

The majority voted in November to elect Barrack Obama President because he promised to deliver all those things that the majority of us figured that our nation needed. If we do our job and keep his feet to the fire, he will do his job. After his job is done the standard will be set. It will be a standard where those who promise must then deliver or be dismissed immediately. This may explain why some are so against his success. Which brings me to the other reason why we are more to blame for this nation's position than any others?

It is our job to vet and elect those who will work for the betterment of this nation not for the whims of a few. There is no other person in the world that can possibly completely share your values. There is only one person capable of completely sharing your values and that's you. The only things the rest of us can do are partially share or agree if they are the same as ours. Because it was our job to vet and elect, we are also responsible for allowing them to run amuck. When they stray, we must be there to pull them back in line. When they misrepresent we must be there to correct them and if they continue to ignore us, we must send them packing and looking for another job. Anything less diminishes our power. Restoration of the power of the people is change that we can believe in.

This is our America, our nation, our country and it is up to us to rebuild, restore and return it to where it can capture that light and shine as that beacon on the hill once more. It is up to us to work with those we elected to serve us to accomplish the job that we sent them to do. As for those who only wish to do nothing and stand in our way, just hope that they have something to wipe our footprint off their faces as we walk over them. We either must sit down or step up because we can't do both.
