Douglas Rushkoff's book, Present Shock offers a guide an explanations to the ways that the new technologies and media have drastically changed the way we relate with time, narrative, story, multitasking, relating to others, work and a lot more. He describes Presentism, Presentists, Fractalnoia and some ways of understanding our changing culture that are eye-openingly useful.
It discussed how we are developing a different relationship to time and to our experience of the world-- how digital distractions and interruptions have affected the way we go into the world... and it discusses how to protect ourselves.
it discusses conspiracy theories, how the fractal and connected nature of the web produces Fractalnoia-- a state that makes us willing to accept all kinds of theories.
While this book is a book that makes you think, it also provides ideas that are very practical and applicable to business, to writing, to running websites and even relationships.
