Things really are as bad as they seem. Worse, probably. But all is not hopelessly lost. Shining slivers of truth penetrate the blinding fogs of mendacious obfuscation that spin a veil of unreality around our minds. To see clear reality, and describe what you see -- to "tell the truth" -- is a radical act of subversion against the mindwashed veil of delusion our masters demand that we "believe in". Telling the truth against a steamrolling juggernaut of delusion is a triumph of the optimism of the will over the pessimism of the mind. It "looks" hopeless, but we try anyway. The link is to an interview with Michael Parenti, a "radical" who has been observing reality and telling the truth for a very long time. The "pessimism/optimism" title is from the interview, Parenti quoting Antonio Gramsci, truth-telling radicals one and all. |
