“Gobsmacked” is one of those words you love because it so perfectly captures what it means: utterly astounded. And it captures how I reacted to three political developments this week in Missouri that had me yanking my jaw off the floor. Democrat Lauren Arthur’s big win in a special state Senate election, Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer’s refusal to criticize GOP rival Kris Kobach and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s embrace of a proposed gasoline tax increase. Arthur surprised with the magnitude of her victory. She didn’t just win, which would have been significant enough. She won by 20 points in a district Trump carried in 2016.
