I spent the better part of 2007 campaigning for Dennis Kucinich in Chicago, the city where Barack Obama is King.
However, I chose to take a look at the candidates during the summer when all Americans should have so that they could begin to support somebody without being tainted by the poisonous cable news or local news with which we get all of our controlled information.
I didn’t get hooked through television. I got hooked to Dennis through YouTube. It was actually this very performance here.
I identified with this because he started to talk about Michigan issues and Indiana issues because the people there were everyday union people from the Midwest. I was amazed with how he handled the immigration question as well as with how he used humor to get his points across.
I did not know anything about his track record then and did not know he was the sole force driving Cheney impeachment. I did not know about how he did an analysis in October of 2002 to rally the House to vote “NO” to Bush’s Iraq war. I did not know he was one of the only politicians in Washington who read the PATRIOT Act. I did not know he stood up to the corporations and saved Cleveland millions and millions of dollars in electric bill costs as mayor of Cleveland. (*I did later and all that makes him the antidote to everything that Bush has done in seven years in office, which has built off of twenty to twenty-five years of underground work done out of the eyes of the public by neoconservatives, conservatives, and Christian evangelicals.)
Having just seen the local news for my area, we are being fed information on the Michigan Caucuses. Interesting how the Democratic Party effectively removed that state from mattering. They also removed Florida from mattering. It was all because the state chose to vote earlier than usual.
Who is on the ballot even though candidate were told by the Democratic Leadership not to campaign there? Gravel, Kucinich, Hillary Clinton… Seems like a joke of an election. Who would want to vote when Obama or Edwards isn’t on the ballot? And so the state’s progressives are largely choosing to vote as “undecided” in the primary even though the best candidate happens to be on the ballot.
Is that the fault of Michigan people or Kucinich’s campaign?
Nope let’s expand. Is it the fault of the American people we have to vote for such lousy un-inspirational candidates like Obama, Edwards, or Clinton?
Obama’s vision for change is as fake and as a big of a front as Al Capone’s Car Wash was for his rich gangster life in Chicago. It never goes beyond the word “change.” Change how?
Well, Pretty Boy Floyd or John Edwards comes along --- and if we weren’t sick of him the first time he ran and then got swept up into the 2004 election as the vice president for the Democratic Party that we would later find out told Kerry to continue to speak favorably about the Iraq war and not take up single-payer health care --- and he tells us that the change will come with getting rid of “corporate greed.”
Let us not all forget we are in a war on a tactic named “terror” and if there’s anything I don’t want it is another manufactured war on a tactic or natural side effect of our supercapitalism.
If those two don’t get you going, there are those Clinton years in the 1990s. And all you have to do to return to those days is pick up the national defense contractors number one pick, Hillary Clinton. She and Billy would love to be back in office because Bill loves “Giving” and Hillary is capable of pushing The Button or being a man like all the other candidates who don’t have to try to be men.
And what it really comes down to is this---we have the chance to vote for the first woman president or the first black president. Now if that woman candidate was Mussolini and the black candidate was Hitler, would you still vote for them? Read your history books because you would. You’d buy into it all in the name of change---a departure from the way things are going.
But Kucinich effectively surrendered. His run for the presidency ended when he endorsed Obama. It ended when Michael Moore made this statement quoted from David Swanson’s article on Kucinich’s endorsement:
