I had my warning 22 years ago, and heeded it, from the head of the Education Department at Oklahoma State, when I was trying to effect the second great reinvention of my life: to become a school teacher. The professor told me, early on in my Education curriculum (my M.A., done concurrently, is in History), as we spoke about the Dallas school district going digital at the turn of the century, that if I did not embrace the technology, it would just roll over me.
I finished my double curriculum anyway, but did not embrace modern educational technology, and never further investigated the possibility of becoming a public school teacher after being awarded my Masters degree. I went back to driving trucks, which was at least honest labor and fed the family.
And so, today, the New York Times, with which I once had a relationship, back in the 1970s, doesn't want information from such a fellow as I. Well, I guess I'm just going to have to accept that rejection as a badge of honor.
