The judiciary, he believes, is the only viable recourse left for the younger generation, "because the courts will be less under the thumb of the fossil fuel industry."
"Young people have all these rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution, and that's what we're asking the courts to look at, and I think this may be our best chance to force the government to do its job," he said.
Most of the elders participating in Grandparents Climate Action Day probably won't live to see the worst effects of climate change, yet they were eager to learn about the earth future generations will inherit. One participant explained her reason for being there. After working with children for her whole career, she realized that as she said "all of it mean[s] nothing if we don't have a livable planet."
