As with the free election to forego knowledge concerning which device is the accelerator and which is the brake, when you’re hurtling to the edge of a cliff, is the mark of utter stupidity, so it is to also presume you have the capacity to wisely discharge your moral obligation relative to the governance of your country while knowing nothing about its past or its intended structure, as outlined in its constitution. http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution.html links you to the official government website where you can download the most sacred document ever penned. http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html takes you directly to the Constitution, where you can download and print each page, individually, its various components; articles and amendments. You thus have no excuse whatsoever for remaining ignorant of any aspect of it. And the refusal to become familiar with it, your preference to remain ignorant of it, comprises your free election to don the ignominious appellation of STUPID.

I have a T-shirt, emblazoned across the back of which is, “Have to be really stupid to vote for John McCain.” I include Sarah Palin by extension. It’s true, one does have to be really stupid to vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin; stupid because one either does not know of his numerous deprecations, his conniving, his cheating, his lying, his most unpresidential epithet-laden temper tantrums, his hair-trigger temper, his demonstrated ignorance of a constitution he would supposedly swear to “preserve, protect and defend,” his ignorance of the international situation, its leaders, and its geography, and his ignorance of basic economics, or one does know all these disqualifying characteristics and simply doesn’t care about them.

During the debate, Sara Palin, when asked what she saw as the Vice President’s role, answered with, “our founding fathers were very wise there in allowing through the Constitution much flexibility there in the office of the vice-president.” As I suggested above, I would not deem it exculpatory, for say, a garage mechanic to be unfamiliar with the Constitution, it is an outrage of the highest order — the HIGHEST ORDER — that any aspirant to public office not be thoroughly familiar with the document.

As nothing beyond mayor of an insignificant dot on a barely peopled map, Palin sought to usurp the limits of her comparatively insignificant office, endeavoring to usurp the First Amendment, first by entreaty, then by coercion. As mayor, then as governor, with little to no regard for the demands of the offices, she filled various state positions with high school cronies, the most consequent qualification being demonstrated fealty to Sarah Palin. And as governor, Palin used her authority to settle old family scores. These are documented facts, not rumor or speculation.

Sarah Palin’s memory synapses just do not fire when the matter of the Constitution is raised because she cannot have ever read the Constitution! This country, over the past seven years and nearly eight and one-half months has been witness to an attempt by the Republican Right-wing, by the president, the vice-president and numerous members within the administration to shred the Constitution, to make of the Article 2 branch a governing power responsible unto only itself. Repeatedly and quite erroneously, the overwhelming majority of citizens seem to assume that by nothing more than the dint of seeking high office those individuals retain more than passing acquaintance with our Constitution. I submit that it is only every citizen’s knowledge of the document and our allegiance to it that keeps us from cascading into tyranny.

That Ms. Palin, in her supremely embarrassing ignorance, supposes there was ever intended to be “much flexibility” is perilous beyond any measure of words. That any American might ever contemplate voting for a McCain/Palin administration is the corporeal essence of terrifying. That is the definition of “IGNORANT.” That is the embodiment of “STUPID!”

You can call a thing whatever you want. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare said that “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Dictatorial tyrannies on the right and left have sought to append validity to their regimes by appending “Democratic” to the name of their country. They were no more a democracy, or the less a dictatorship as a result. The United States of America can always be called the United States of America long after any relationship to a democratic republic has been lost.

Can I make the case any clearer?
