"We voted with our hearts and we got bamboozled," they said to each other. "We will vote no more forever." And with that the small town on the edge of a vast frontier faded into the ideological abyss.
The moral of the story?
Actually, there is no moral since the small town continues to be ruled by charlatans, liars and sociopaths. But if there's a lesson to be learned maybe it's that the townsfolk shouldn't put so much faith in the whole savior thing to begin with. It's childish and unnecessary. It gets everyone into trouble. And besides, sitting around waiting for some special person to save you has a way of making it easier to avoid the heavy lifting that running a small town requires. Maybe that's not such a good thing.
