Instead, the Ryan/Rand child (let's just call him Budget) begins and ends with selfishness and greed.

The greed and selfishness has more to do with ethics than religion. An atheist can still be kind, unselfish, honest and ethical, and usually is, but Ayn will long be remembered for saying things like the individual should "exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself". Ayn believed that generosity, even kindness and compassion for those less fortunate was weakness to be despised, because it is immoral. Poor? Disabled? Mere parasites feeding off society. It is no wonder that Ayn's genetic contribution is apparent in Budget, and she has her fans, even in the midst of the break-up.

Her devotees say that we cannot afford a safety net for the poor; let them eat rice (and beans); better yet, let them eat nothing at all. And then the Ryan/Rand child wants to take from the impoverished what little they have in order to pay for charity for the rich. That little bastard Budget does that, you know. One would think that those who claim to live by 'godly', or even moral tenets, would find this idea abhorrent.

Poor, dumb Paul was duped. Like many men, he must have been blinded by love, a love he now renounces and denies. She was just someone he never knew...
