Campbell ultimately teaches about the primacy of Consciousness. This is nothing new. Indeed, as one of the Hindu Upanishads says:
Brahmin (Consciousness) alone is real and all else is Maya (Divine Play or illusion).
According to Campbell, Consciousness is the foundation of the universe, as we know it. Yet, he makes sure that people know that Consciousness may be felt as being enormously powerful (as anyone who has entered a mystical state can attest to); it is not necessarily infinite.
Campbell states the quest of our being is to increase our Consciousness while becoming Love. What is Love if not a sense of connectedness, of oneness"a marriage of a sort with the All? Being Love and being Conscious are one. The means our becoming Love is to move beyond our fear. What are our fears in this day and age? What keeps us stuck?
Consciousness is a trickster in some ways. Consciousness creates the world and then debates its own existence. She-He even debates if She is real or not. The images, dreams, visions and, indeed, this entire world is a manifestation of Consciousness. As such, the Keres Pueblo call Consciousness "Thinking Woman" whose thoughts become this entire universe. In Christian literature, these thoughts are seen as the Word. What is a word if not a vibration at a certain frequency that we, as units of consciousness, take in and convert into a meaningful utterance?
How does this notion of Thinking Woman relate to what's called the Double Slit Experiment of Physics? According to the write up on Wikipedia:
The double-slit experiment is a demonstration that light and matter can display characteristics of both classically defined waves and particles ; moreover, it displays the fundamentally probabilistic nature of quantum mechanical phenomena. The experiment belongs to a general class of "double path" experiments, in which a wave is split into two separate waves that later combine back into a single wave. Changes in the path lengths of both waves result in a phase shift, creating an interference pattern . Another version is the Mach--Zehnder interferometer , which splits the beam with a mirror.
Tom Campbell's work presents a pretty good theoretical analysis on this double-split phenomenon. To listen to an in depth analysis of the double-split phenomena, see the link at the end of this article to the Envision This! episode in which Campbell was interviewed.
Would Tom agree with me regarding my spiritual ramblings? Probably not. But, as he says, this is my Big TOE and while I love his (Tom's) Big TOE, I also take his wisdom into another realm of possibility, which is my Big TOE.
So, what does the Reader's Big TOE look like? As I word this question, I recall James Burke the narrator and originator of the movie, "The Day the Universe Changed" saying:
" If the universe is what you say it is, then, by all means, say!"
In conversing with Campbell, I realize he and Burke could have a wonderful conversation. I would bet Burke might roll with Campbell on consciousness being primary. More importantly, I also wonder how much Campbell's thesis fits into what may well become a new paradigm for our species. Is Campbell's work, alongside many others, the impetus for REAL change beyond the corporate-governmental worlds we live in?
We can indeed unfold a new world"not the old one of George Bush's "New World Order." His is the Old Order. The New World Order will be one that is free of the likes of Bush, Obama, Romney and the rest of those hired hands of the international corporations.
Our Earth is dying and we have become the walking dead in our consumerist culture. Yes, we are destroying the planet in our lifestyles because our hunger for growth is without end. We are a vicious cancerous growth on the face of Gaia, the Earth. We no longer can afford to be led by those following the old paradigm. The time is now for us to emerge from this "dark age" that is at least 6 to 10,000 years old and unfold the potential for the new world lying within us. It sits in wait like an unfertilized egg yearning to manifest. How can you help this egg within you to unfold?
It is not so much that some externalized God is going to be resurrected as much as it is we that need to be resurrected from the dead.
What are the potential of our resurrection if not the Golden Egg of the old myths and fairy tales? That potential is contained in you! It has always been there. All potentials are within us.
