Mitt Romney is a Pisces, born 12 March. That gives him a sensitive soul and a gift for spirituality.
With Pisces, life takes on a watery, sensitive cast because this is the sign of the Fish (actually, two fish bound together, with one pulling upstream and the other wanting to float downstream). This sign often manifests as someone who struggles between the low road of materialism, addiction, and martyrdom and the high road of spirituality, compassion, and tolerance. In Romney's case, spirituality often has been expressed through his religious background, and he has been extremely active in this area; compassion might be deduced from his push for universal health care coverage in Massachusetts.
When misused, this urge to spirituality and oneness may be expressed as trying to create a perfect society by controlling others, often based on religious dogma. Although Pisces often may be naive about money, this sign's imagination and creativity may allow Pisceans to become extremely rich (Romney's net worth is huge; Steve Jobs was a Pisces, too). Romney appears to have avoided money issues by tapping Pisces's opposite sign, Virgo: instead of dreamy ideals (Pisces), he deals in data, data, data (Virgo) and absolutely avoids risks (Virgo, and earth signs in general, tend to this avoidance).
As a mutable sign, Pisces is highly adaptable, and this sign has a need to help and serve, so consulting is a natural career choice. As can be seen in Romney's career and life, the Pisces ability to adapt and be everything to everyone, however, makes this sign slippery, an enigma, and extremely hard to pin down. Pisces also generally is secretive and private; note the unwillingness to reveal financial information.
Pisces also excels in the arts and loves glamour and spectacle. Romney often gives presentations rather than speeches, he played a major role in the 2002 winter Olympics, and he retains a fondness for France after time there as a young man.
U.S. presidents who were Pisceses: George Washington, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and Grover Cleveland.
Rick Santorum
Rick Santorum is a Taurus, born 10 May. That gives him enduring strength and a gift for understanding the physical world.
With Taurus, life takes on a practical, steady feeling because this is the sign of the Bull. This energy often manifests as someone who values security and dependability, dislikes change, and gains notice for persistence rather than brilliance. In Santorum's case, this tendency can be seen in his social and religious conservatism, his generally cautious stance on fiscal policy, and his "hawkish" views on foreign affairs.
When misused, the Bull's strength and fixed nature (this is a fixed sign) can be expressed as stubbornness, bullying, and a pugnacious, in-your-face communication style--all of which can be seen in Santorum's background, from his "Join the Fight!" slogan in 1994, to his confrontational nature as a child, to his defense of prisoner mistreatment via "enhanced interrogation."
At the same time, Taurus may become a fighter for underdogs: Santorum sided with Democrats on legislation to prohibit replacing striking workers and was involved in exposing members of Congress involved in the House banking scandal. Yet Taurus may engage in the same behavior as those it criticizes (and its criticism often comes out in a hamfisted, clumsy way, as can be seen in Santorum's numerous verbal gaffes). As just one example, witness Santorum's past problems with residency issues, despite winning his first race after criticizing his incumbent opponent for living outside the district.
U.S. presidents who were Tauruses: James Monroe, James Buchanan, Ulysses Grant, Harry Truman.
