Thankfully, Thailand's live and let live culture has finally expanded to include the LGBTQ community, giving its members the opportunity to wed and be recognized legally.
The question is whether other countries will follow suit.
With Taiwan and Nepal already allowing same-sex marriage, other countries in the region should take note that times are changing, and more people demand more freedom.
India, for example, does not allow same-sex marriage. Neither does Philippines or South Korea.
Same-sex couples in these countries are still denied the rights afforded heterosexual couples.
Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam are also countries where same-sex couples are denied such rights. Millions of people in these countries simply cannot live out their lives in peace and happiness.
Instead, they must live in fear of a government that does not legally recognize their equality, denies their freedom, and ignores their humanity.
It is time for change. It is time for more countries to drop laws against same-sex marriage and allow people to wed whomever they please.
