We should be more like the French, more than a million of whom demonstrated across France recently against President Macron's law changing the retirement age from 62 to 64. Americans should be able to summon comparable rage at the $2 trillion healthcare scam perpetrated by the healthcare-government complex. The choice between the status quo and Medicare for All is not whether government should play a substantial role in the healthcare market. It already does in all markets. But it must design this market so that it honors the commitment of a democratic society to universal access to essential goods and services.
