The normalization of the lie benefits white supremacy as it spreads to insist that there is one ordering of human beings possible. The expansion of this nightmare doesn't negate the primal scene in which this Event where a white man or two exchange capital while an ancestor of mine become commodities.

In 1984, George Orwell is thinking about the future of humanity. He's asking when and under what circumstances will humans evolve, turn away from the nightmare that has us stuck like clogs within a system, capitalizes on our gullibility to being controlled by fear and hate. We produce fear of the other rather than love for the other, and, as Orwell shows, this way of existing only maintains the system in which we serve a Big Brother and his oligarchs-- ultimately leading to our demise.

Today, it's me. Tomorrow, it's you, but eventually, everyone soon.

When we meet Winston, Orwell's protagonist in his home, the eventuality of his end at the hands of the system he is forced to serve is already in play. Forward progress, for those existing in Oceania, is movement toward death. Among the walking dead, Winston knows this way in which he and others are forced to exist isn't normal. Like so many of his fellow residents in Oceania, he believes he is without agency.

The system can't be changed! And why? It's not because of those manipulating this particular way of being. Everything points residents in the direction of the "enemy". The enemy is responsible for the scarcity of food, water, housing. Everything that should be a human right. The enemy is responsible for that lack of possibilities! Thanks to Big Brother's policies, the system, provides safety from the enemy. So, the narrative goes.

The enemy isn't outside the system of greed and chaos. The system is the enemy. What takes place with the system isn't just busy work. On the contrary, as mundane as it might appear, the repeated tasks performed, shuffle through documents etc to send certain ones down the memory hole is a way to program everyone to see in family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers the enemy too. Think of Musk and his DOGE team of youthful hackers or the federal agencies that once worked hard to implement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (D. E. I.). These agencies are frantically removing anything referring to the inclusion of people of color or LGBTQ+ in their mission statements. Those who are black or indigenous or trans are being removed, suspected of being the enemies to the New World Order.

More entrenchment of this new ordering of people is evident in those mandatory attendance at hate week sessions and hate rallies! And always, always, the two-way telescreens piping "patriotic songs" and "news" in the homes of every resident, keep watch for any possible hint of dissent while also...

If democracy, human rights, decency is excluded and replaced with cruelty, revenge, retribution then it's certain that the scarcity of basic needs is a given, built in and attributed to the enemy. Of course.
