For those who are believers in some religious system, I would ask you: can you state your deepest principles and values in a way that can speak also to those who do not hold to that system of belief? (For example, the injunction to extend compassion to others can be stated without any mention of Jesus, or of Buddha, both of whom taught the sacred importance of compassion.)
And for those who, like me, are believers in no traditional system of religious belief, I would ask you: can you state your deepest principles and values in a way that would resonate deeply with those of your countrymen whose sense of the sacred is organized around traditional religious beliefs?
So... I invite you to help in the formulation of the kind of ideas that might, in an ideal scenario, help channel the kind of Third Awakening that America now needs.
