House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is often cited as one of the most sympathetic to left-wing groups, did not directly respond to the president's charge but did say his remarks were "beneath the dignity of the office that he holds."
"And I don't want to go there with him," the California Democrat said.
Of course, Nancy didn’t want to go there with him. Very few Democrats want to go there with him. And those that stand up to go there with Mr. Bush get swept aside by Pelosi or the Democratic Leadership, which has specific plans for how to work the lobbies, corporations, and think tanks in America so that Democrats can win in 2008.
This truth is being picked up by Dick Cheney, and FOX News is delighting in being able to point how easy Democrats will go along with what Pelosi does and “rubberstamp” her. Cheney is quoted saying of the majority that took over in 2006 that they have “produced absolutely nothing that I can see of benefit or consistent with the promises that they made when they went out and ran for election.” Cheney is revealing to the Democratic leadership what could very well be the Democratic Party's Achilles' heel in this presidential election (as well as congressional elections).
Cheney went on to deliver a jab that seemed to go after the masculinity or assertiveness of John Murtha and John Dingell, defense appropriations subcommittee and Energy and Commerce Committee chairmen, highlighting how they are not driving the train and instead Pelosi is.
"They're not carrying the big stick I would have expected with the Democrats in the majority," he said.
Cheney here has revealed the flipside of the efficient and dastardly Republican political machine in attacking and defeating Democrats. We all know that if you are moral and stand for truth and wholesome ideas, you are “un-American” or “un-patriotic” to Republicans. Few pay attention to the other side shown here, which is that if you are wishy-washy or weak and “rubberstamp” when you made indications that you wouldn’t if given the chance to take a stand, you are “spineless.”
I would like to say Cheney is wrong when considering how much I want to impeach him. But, the Republicans have a fool-proof plan that works even when closeted gay Republicans are coming out of the closet in increasing numbers. No matter what, the Republicans know how to get Democrats to waffle---to flip-flop.
While Tom Lang’s following remarks are true:
The chief obstruction in Congress has been House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. As far as this writer is concerned, her treason is much greater than that of Cheney-Bush. For it is Pelosi, and only Pelosi, who enjoys the most powerful position in American government, a power which solely enables her to remove these proven criminals from office. Remembering and considering the lies, falsehoods and propaganda, now all proven as such as generated by the criminals in the Bush White House, and employed to enrage the American people into believing that vengeance could be delivered to the doorstep of those who planned and perpetrated 9/11. Bush, in a post Iraq press interview answering a reporter’s query as to what Saddam and Iraq had to do with 9/11, replied, “Nothing!” Then why are we there? Why are we still there?
The harsh truth is that Democrats are playing it too safe. Democrats, especially Pelosi, who may be a captive of AIPAC so she can keep her career and may not even support harsh interrogations, are making the same mistake that they made in 1987 when they could have impeached Ronald Reagan after the honorable Henry B. Gonzalez brought impeachment to the table unafraid of top Republicans.
At this critical point in history, the Democrats must read the legislation that comes across their desk, they must start introducing necessary legislation to repair America, and they must divorce themselves from the leadership in the Democratic Party especially AIPAC’s darling, Nancy Pelosi. They must pursue impeachment of Cheney then Bush.
As we all know, the Democrats did not win in 1988. And as I fear, if Democrats continue to play it safe and allow news of closed meetings, secret memos, torture, scandal, leaked reports, money unaccounted for in Iraq, weapons lost in the Middle East, etc. to continue to go unnoticed and unchallenged, the nation will be in for four years that will be worse than what we experienced under Bush.
