Whether a player goes to the pros or not, the dedication and responsibility a young man must possess to play junior hockey is thought to do a lot for the maturation process. As one hockey Dad says, "Junior hockey makes them more mature but besides being mature for hockey, they're also very mature so when they get to college they know why they're there, why they're going to school." As for what the game means to the players, Derek Nutter says, "It's huge. I've been playing hockey all my life. I've been skating probably since I was three in backyard rinks and I can't really see my life without hockey. And just to be able to come play at this high level is a great opportunity, to get better and hopefully to move on."
