The truth could set us free.
Imagine Obama declaring: "The aggressive foreign policy of the Bush administration will end the day I become President. There is no need for a new Cold War. The US and Russia have shared interests in stability, whether in the Middle East or Eastern Europe, or over nuclear weapons. While we may have differences over some issues, we will work them out peacefully to our mutual satisfaction. Spending more unlimited billions on defense is in neither the interest of the American people nor of the Russian people.
The US, under my Presidency will promote democracy, but will not continue to attempt to encircle Russia with military allies. That has been an unnecessary and dangerous policy of the Bush administration and will be discontinued. Further, the attempt to build a missile shield in Eastern Europe is not only provocative and counter-productive, it is an utter and huge waste of money, since anti-ballistic missile systems have still not been proven to work despite billions spent on development. In fact, I will notify President Medvedev that the US will once again adhere to the ABM treaty and cancel all contracts to develop such systems; even to attempt to develop them makes everyone less safe, at the cost of untold billions of dollars. A vote for Obama is a vote for peace; a vote for my opponent is a vote for continuous war and confrontation. It's your choice.
