Not satisfied, the egg industry wants even more of our tax dollars to subsidize their inhumane, unhygienic and disease-prone way of "farming."
"The poultry industry appreciates the fact that the USDA helps protect the health of the nation's livestock and poultry by responding to major animal disease events such as this," says a letter from the National Association Egg Farmers to Catherine Woteki Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics. But please "provide indemnification for the whole flock and not just the surviving," the letter asks.
The "farmers" responsible for spreading Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea and avian flu through their intensive conditions should not be rewarded with our tax dollars--they should be shut down.
