I've told you before, Andy, how much I liked "Waitress." It's a special film - fine and gentle, a throwback to an earlier era, in the best possible sense. If you're comfortable with it, I'm sure our readers would be interested in the backstory of the making of "Waitress." I know I am.
I'm not sure there is a backstory. Adrienne was neither a Southern waitress, nor did she bake pies. But she was a great writer, who had the capacity to get inside the minds of her characters and combine her own thoughts and experiences into them on some level. Adrienne wrote "Waitress while pregnant with our daughter Sophie, and I think she very successfully, and with great emotional resonance, conveyed her own fears and apprehension about facing motherhood...especially as it concerned the challenges of career and marriage.
That certainly qualifies as backstory. And this foundation is a fitting tribute to her. Anything we didn't cover that you'd like to add?
Yes, I'm also very proud to announce that "Serious Moonlight, a film Adrienne wrote after "Waitress, will hit theatres December 4th. Adrienne left behind several completed scripts, and after she died I thought I should do whatever I could to get them made into movies. So, I started a production company called all for A films and began to produce them. "Serious is the first, and it stars Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton, Kristen Bell and Justin Long, and is directed by Cheryl Hines. It's a very entertaining, dark romantic comedy...and I know Adrienne would be happy and proud to have more of her work out there for audiences to see. Making this movie was a true labor of love for a lot of people, many of whom worked with her on "Waitress.
What a stellar cast and crew. I'll look forward to seeing it. Thanks for talking with me, Andy, and good luck to you and the foundation!
