That's exactly what Huff refuses to concede. He describes a scenario in which the virus escaped from the WIV in August 2019, and US officials became aware of it and increasingly concerned (see WaPo reference above), and China tried to cover the leak up and fix it between September and December, and then released the virus at the market to draw attention to a spillover event and take eyes off the lab and the escape event. He adds:
This leads to a shocking realization about the United States' response to the COVID pandemic. Nobody should be surprised that the Chinese lied about the outbreak of SAR-CoV-2 and then went to extraordinary lengths to make it appear as if the disease naturally emerged.
The shocking part of all of this is how the United States government lied to all of us.
Several agencies were aware that this outbreak was occurring and did not communicate this disaster to the public.
Phew! Huff, in keeping with the implications of his book's subtitle, even speculates on the motives of the "collusion."
First, he avers that the Covid "intentional release" was motivated by "Global Corporate Greed and Money." He explains who the players and "stakeholders'' were /are: They are Great Reset-ists. Sounds cuckoo, but then you realize that no vaccine out there was ever fully vetted before release and that they were all introduced almost simultaneously under the government protection from liability afforded by the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). This makes the case for believing that some of the undertested vaccines could be dangerous, and that the general population could be living in a live laboratory. It's a lot to take in. At the very least it keeps the waters of speculation roiling.
Huff adds, tellingly,
People have pointed to President Barack Obama's executive order lifting the ban on gain of function research a week before he left office in 2016 as evidence that SARS-CoV-2 was a dirty political trick by President Obama.
The reality was that the gain of function work on select agents had never actually stopped.
Politics? What proof do we have of this continuation of GOF research?
In 2018, NASEM released Biodefense In The Age Of Synthetic Biology, a framework for how and why the US government should engage in creating new viruses ("chimeras") and chemicals before US enemies did. Two areas of concern arise;
Making existing viruses more dangerous: Creating a modified version of a known virus in which one or more traits have been altered to make the virus more dangerous (such as by enhancing its virulence). (p.31)
Creating new pathogens: Constructing a pathogen from the novel combination of multiple parts, which may be derived from various organisms, designed computationally, or created through other strategies. (p.32)
So, intentionality was fully established by NASEM in 2018 as they developed the framework for how the DoD would create chimeras. What's unclear is why the US would allow the Chinese to build Gain-of-Function chimeras, if they are on the list of US military enemies.
The NASEM book of Synthetic Biology is must-read material to understand how the defense against the Covid event was already being planned for. Indeed, DARPA, through their Pandemic Prevention Platform (P3) program was right on top of the event: In 2019, P3 partners were engaged in "wargames" against a potential virus. As a DARPA rep told me in email exchange:
