However, I am a veteran, with the training and experience in them, and with the history of the last 13 years here, I keep a home defense weapon.
I have never filed for Concealed Carry, because the weapon hasn't left the house since 2018. No children ever enter this house, and I keep it in a place where it is immediately accessible to me, but too high off the floor for any child to reach.
Given the brutal killing of Pinot, my canine companion, in the case of an intruder in my home, I will assume that the person is armed, and that I am in danger of my life. He (I cannot imagine she) will get a warning, with directions to lie down on his belly with his hands behind his head, and not move while the police arrive.
If I am attacked in my home by an intruder, I will shoot to kill. Self-defense, within one's own home, is as justifiable a reason to own firearms as any reason that can be put forth.
