The backtracking by the Israeli government regarding Susya this week stands in stark contrast with PM Netanyahu's hawkish, arguably racist, anti-Arab image, his grandstanding disregard for the international community, and his refusal to accept a free Palestine, which were the core themes of his recent national election campaign.
Also this week, an influential European think-tank issued a report advocating sanctions against Israeli banks, which operate in Palestine -- practically all of them. Immediately share prices of Israeli banks took a hit. [vii] Moreover, after initial denials, Netanyahu admitted earlier this month that he had frozen all building in Jewish settlements in Palestine in recent months without any public notice, also apparently under strong European pressure. [viii]
Another notable recent event was the announcement by the Chinese government in June that Chinese workers and Chinese construction companies were prohibited from working in Palestine under contracts with Israeli corporations or the Israeli government. [ix] It should also be recalled that under Chinese pressure, Netanyahu withdrew last year his support for the lawsuit against the China Bank in the US federal Court in Manhattan on charges of collusion with terror, a lawsuit that had originated as a joint US-Israeli venture. [x]
Regardless of the family feuds, acted out by Obama and Netanyahu, the US staunch support for the Netanyahu remains unchanged - decades of US inaction, or even obfuscation relative to Palestinian statehood.
The new circumstances may reflect
tectonic changes in the intentional scene with the unfolding of the
Eurasian Century. It now appears more likely that it would
eventually be a Chinese - European Union front, which would force a
peace agreement and the establishment of a free Palestine.
