But the Catholic bishops in the United States will probably be among the last Americans to curb their zealotry. After all, they are not likely to die as martyrs for their religious doctrines in the United States today. And they clearly do not see their own religious zealotry as something that they themselves should work to curb.
Therefore, other Americans should work to curb the influence of the religious zealotry of the Catholic bishops by criticizing and countering their bogus arguments (1) against contraception and (2) against abortion in the first trimester and (3) against same-sex civil marriage. In all three of these matters, the bishops' bogus arguments are based on Catholic "natural law" moral theory, a bogus approach to moral theory.
