Just ask Barack Obama

This past Election Day, America relinquished stewardship of its government to donald trump. The electoral college victory achieved by trump over a more-than-competent Hillary Clinton was a truly remarkable achievement for a failed businessman of seedy character with Russian connections, mob ties, absolutely no legislative or governmental experience and a racist past. Perhaps understandably, it's an accomplishment about which trump endlessly brags. It's unlikely however, that trump will ever understand that while becoming president may be an extraordinary achievement; proper stewardship of the presidency is a far more monumental task.

At another point in time America's Presidency was -- among other things -- a wondrous political and cultural institution that thrived on a healthy mix of cultural sophistication, political ingenuity, intellectual curiosity, technical dexterity and imaginative creativity. In short, simply too enormous an institution to have been placed in such tiny hands.

At this point in time, our presidency is a nightmarish satire which reveals how easily an institution of such historical durability can be reduced to rubble by someone as small, petty, and of little stature as donald trump.

But on the brighter side, the trump presidency does appears spiraling toward early dismissal due to corruption, incompetence, mismanagement, chaos, internal leaks and staff defections.

But mostly of course, due to the behavior of a "president" whose unhinged, Mueller-related Twitter ramblings come off -- according to Shakespeare -- like "guilt being spilt for fear of being spilt."

It's now America's move. The midterms are looming and the civilized world is watching. America must deliver a referendum in November that clearly rejects trump's "Art of the Presidency" as the new norm.

Because if we as Americans fail to resurrect the dignity of our Presidency, America's future will almost certainly include an endless succession of thoroughly fuk"uh, "screwed" up presidents.

And a dead Presidency.
