Solo por el aspecto no se puede deducir si son o no micrometeoritos, ya que hay cantidad de procesos industriales que producen microesferas similares. Tal es el caso de las Centrales de Produccion de Energia Electrica mediante carbon, Fundiciones de metales, Altos Hornos, ect.

El 99,9 % de las microesferas que se recogen de la atmosfera, son de
origen industrial. La forma de recogerlas suele ser del agua de lluvia en bateas, lo mas amplias posible y preferentemente despues de periodos de sequia y/o despues de lluvias meteoricas importantes como las Perseidas, Leonidas, o Geminidas. El agua recogida se filtra mediante papel de filtro y mediante un iman se separan las partes metalicas. A continuacion ya se pueden observar el material obtenido al microcopio y posteriormente analizarlas.
