In April of 1989 she marched toward making a Fuller Better Investment in the world's future by introducing House Resolution HR 1807 calling for the formation of the United States Soviet Peace Corps.
Can you think of a better and cheaper way to "wage peace" together?
Unfortunately, as the Soviet Union fell apart in the next two years, HR1807 fell to the wayside. Then my mom had a debilitating stroke and her recovery became my battlefield for seven+ years.
Before the Boxer retires, why not ask her to try taming the Bear and Eagle again? What a way for a Boxer for Peace to temper a growling Bear and biting Eagle.
While Americans are placed in harms' way at about 800 US bases (vs. about 15 Russian) and about 430 US Navy ships/subs (vs. about 280 Russian) throughout the world, why not ask the Russians to build a joint Peace Corps with us and start shifting competition from warfare to developmental affairs?
What a wonderfully healthy chess move that would be.
Boxer's House Resolution and her correspondence and other writings charting that history are at www.peopleslobby.us as is our American World Service Corps National Service Proposal, which has joint international Peace Corps as one of its elements. Why not spread the word about both?
As the 2016 Doomsday Clock registers 3 minutes before midnight, here's hoping you make a "Fuller Better Investment" in "bettering mankind" than just carrying around political placards. Push Congress to get a million Americans involved in doing service at home, abroad, and with others as the AWSC National Service Proposal proposes doing.
