Once you actually become aware that you are automatically trying to look at your body from your head (brain and eyes) then you can learn that it is possible to actually be aware of your head itself and from there you can learn that your consciousness is not actually in your brain. This a very important step to take because it changes your entire orientation and allows you to become free from the hierarchical orientation of your own body experience. With practice this is not that difficult to achieve.
Then look at the psyche. You become aware of psyche as a dynamic multi-dimensional world of images 'seen' without the physical eyes - so-called 'mental images'. We 'see' these in dreams and imagination and fantasies and these living images are always 'feeling-toned'; that is, they seem to radiate some kind of meaning. We cannot locate these feeling-toned images anywhere in the body; they are non-material. But if we take time to become aware of them we will see that they are not the same thing as consciousness itself even though they are non-material. In fact, consciousness itself has no image or face that it can perceive. It is the faceless witness of body and psyche and of all material and non-material reality. If you focus consciousness at the solar plexus rather than in the head you will discover that your awareness of both body and psyche becomes greatly intensified. It takes time to learn how to do this, but anyone can learn it. Solar plexus-focused consciousness breaks down hierarchical orientation because it draws the usually upward-moving energy of the head downward and the usually downward-moving energy of the feet and the groin upward where these opposing energies fuse into a ruby heat that greatly focuses awareness of the entire energy system that is free from any hierarchical valuation. Consciousness that is focused here is also much more aware of the fusing of body and psyche into one reality.
All material and non-material reality: This is something that exceeds comprehension. In the material realm the reality reaches into the fathomless microscopic abyss and into the macroscopic reality that is equally fathomless. How do we know that this macroscopic reality ends with the limits of our perception? There is no reason why there can't be realities too big for us to perceive just as there are realities too small for us to perceive. And this is true for both the material and the non-material realms. And between these fathomless realms is consciousness becoming aware of them. That is, these opposing realms fusing and becoming self-aware and in becoming self-aware becoming something other than what they were. And yet it is they. So where is this process of non-conscious opposites fusing into consciousness going?
Physicists say that the material universe has a vast aspect that cannot be located as ordinary material reality. It is 'dark matter'. It is matter that has become something hard to identify as matter. Scientists have also found that in radioactive decay energy seems to escape from the material universe which is something that would violate the second law of thermodynamics. Where could this energy be going? Nobel Laureate Wolfgang Pauli postulated the existence of certain quantum particles (neutrinos) to assure the scientific community that this law cannot be violated. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe the material universe is destined to become something other than an 'ordinary' material reality. Maybe material reality will fuse with psychic reality until there is a new universal reality that we cannot presently even imagine. But we have a clue of what it might be in consciousness that is itself a fusion into a new reality.
The image I used for this concluding part of my article series is an old alchemical image of the superhuman figure called Mercuius. Mercurius is a fusion of all opposites into one ever-becoming being. I use Mercurius as my symbol of human destiny. Of universal destiny. Of universal freedom.
The oligarchs cannot destroy what they cannot touch.
We keep on the move.
