As this letter attests, the November 5 U.S. election calls for action by each one of us.
In past years I have been less than impressed with the entire process of electoral politics. Both parties have been in the pockets of the corporate world, both have been involved in coverups of highly significant events, and both have been cheerleaders enabling the military industrial complex and other elements of empire to expand beyond all reason.
However, this election has pushed many people to seriously consider what is at stake and - at least for the moment - is generating both a fear of fascism (the awareness that 'it can happen here') and a desire for real democracy.
The very fact that it is quite possible to imagine Donald Trump, who clinically speaking, is a dangerous psychopath (and an impulsive narcissist with probable dementia) launching a nuclear war has caused the democratic party to mobilize its practical idealism in the interest of human survival. The fear of death can do that.
This formulation is reality-based and in no way an exaggeration.
In truth the stakes in this election could not be higher.
