Democrat Aaron Rouse (pictured at center) appears to have defeated Republican Kevin Adams in a Virginia state senate race. Adams conceeded on Wednesday. The election results still have to be certified to become official, which usually takes a few weeks.
GOP's Jen Kiggans' state senate seat was vacated after she won Virginia's US House seat in the last election. Incumbant, Democrat Elaine Luria's loss came in the aftermath of redistricting. Luria is well known for her inspiring finale speech of the Summer January 6 hearings. Luria endorsed Rouse in the state race.
In 2019, Kiggans had narrowly won in Virginia's 7th district over Dem Cheryl Turpin, 50.4% to 49.5%.
According to APNews, The outcome of the race appears to boost Democrats' narrow control of the state Senate. Republicans control the House of Delegates.

In 2018, Rouse won an election to an at-large seat on the Virginia Beach city council. He is a former NFL defensive back who also played for the UFL as well as college football at Virginia Tech.
