People gathering after Israel's attack on Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza
It is quite possible Hamas surprise attack in Israel on October 7th where some 1400 Israeli's were killed and over 240 taken hostage was intended to get the Israeli's to overreact and kill thousands of innocent Gaza citizens indiscriminately including women and children so the world would condemn Israel.
This in fact has occurred throughout the Muslim world. However there's a lack of unity in the EU on the conflict. On the one hand Hamas has been condemned for the killing of Israeli's and their taking hostages but with Muslim immigration in EU states, there are political and social divisions between the government and the people making the EU a weakened player.
As for the US government, Israel's primary backer, they still cling to the idea Israel has a right to defend itself and supports Hamas being eliminated. Yet there have been demonstrations against Israel including outside the White House.
Meanwhile Russia and China have condemned Hamas for its attack and hostage taking yet each calls on Israel to initiate a cease fire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the complete liquidation of Hamas and won't consider a cease fire until all the hostages are released.
Thus far some 10,000 Gaza citizens have been killed during the IDF ground invasion, artillery and bombing of Gaza.
Lately with Israel's onslaught of Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital it has been condemned by most of the world's countries even by the US.
So at this point it might be safe to say Hamas has succeeded if their strategy to get Israel to overreact and kill thousands of innocent women and children and achieved its aim of getting the world to condemn Israel for its ongoing assault in Gaza.
The one concession Israel has made is to call an occasional four hour cease fire for food, water and medical supplies be delivered to Gaza but then it resumes the bombing and missile strikes.
To this distant and far away observer only the US has any real influence on the Israeli's stopping the carnage. The world sees the US as Israel's primary backer and the longer the siege in Gaza continues, the world will condemn the US for not getting Israel to end the war.
