Sarah Palin Owes Us Apologies As Well

Sarah Palin had much to twit about in the aftermath of a recent rude remark made by Helen Thomas that the Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" and her further statement that they should "go home" to Poland and Germany 65 years after the end of World War II. Helen Thomas shortly thereafter issued an apology and resigned.

Palin thought she had much to crow about and many she thought she could gleefully accuse:

"Helen Thomas press pals condone racist rant? Heaven forbid"esteemed"press corps represent society's enlightened elite; Rest of us choose truth"

Not satisfied with the satisfaction of pointing fingers at the press corp while oblivious to the fact they did not support these remarks, Palin continued to personally bash Helen Thomas, an 89 year old journalistic warhorse well past her prime and famous quick wit:

"Helen, Helen, Helen... unimaginable misunderstandng of Jewish history...& unconscionable indecency.Press corps colleagues calling u on this?" [5:27 PM June 4th Twitter]

How can you, Sarah Palin, in good Christian faith not ask yourself why you are so eager to vilify an old woman, one with a such a distinguised record, a career longer than your own life span, a career that helped to open up the possibility of your own future as a woman in journalism, for badly stating in her dotage beliefs held by many American people, Jewish and otherwise, when you are more than willing to forgive yourself and others of far, far worse as long as it benefits you or the Republican Party?

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah... there's an old saying,"Clean your own front stoop first." So ready to accuse the press when you should still be sending them thank you notes for not fully reporting your very own, not so very little, previous racist faux pas during your coming out party at the GOP National Convention and your present day use of Nixon's infamous "Jew counter" as your very own personal political advisor.

America is still awaiting your apology for the carefully planned inclusion of Westbrook Pegler in your first and most important speech, your introductory speech to the nation. You remember Pegler I am sure, Sarah, if not before your speech then surely afterwards when some in the press actually did report your usage of a quote from a man so anti-Semitic, so racist, so hate-filled that he makes the most bitter remarks that could ever possibly be uttered by Helen Thomas look like words falling from the mouth of Mother Theresa. Now, really Sarah, ask yourself which is worse, old Helen's remark made on the spur of the moment, for which she apologized and for which she resigned, or your very own use of the words of a rabid racist who was so over the top with his hatred he pushed for the assassination of a sitting president and so vile he was kicked out of the John Birch Society. Your quoting this man was well planned in advance and was used specifically to pander to the racist and extremist base of the Republican Party, something for which you've never offered the first hint of apology to any of us:

"We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity,"

It was kinda cute that you and the GOP tried to play him off as an unknown writer, stupid but cute. Many caught these code words inserted in your speech by the same Bush adminstration speech writer, Matthew Scully, who helped lie us into war, words meant to rally racists and all the party faithful 'commie, FDR and Jew haters' to your side. Your words certainly didn't get past Robert Kennedy, Jr. The son of Robert Kennedy immediately called you out on it in his blog. I am sure you are well aware of his response to your own unconscionable and indecent use of Pegler before the American public:

"Fascist writer Westbrook Pegler, an avowed racist who Sarah Palin approvingly quoted in her acceptance speech for the moral superiority of small town values, expressed his fervent hope about my father, Robert F. Kennedy, as he contemplated his own run for the presidency in 1965, that "some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies."

Oh! you say. I didn't know! I had no idea! Oh my! Let's get real here, Sarah. Try to be honest with yourself and with us. Unless you claim you did not know just who the hell Westbrook Pegler was until this very moment, there is no reason for your delayed apology. None. Nada.
