Here in Katy, Texas, most of the lawn signs are for McCain. I have one of the few Obama signs. One of the others in my neighborhood belongs to a household full of young people and another belongs to a family of African Americans.
My grandson found himself being teased at school for wearing a Democrat T-shirt, and my granddaughter was the only one making an Obama sign in a class where the teacher had nine-year-olds drawing campaign signs, after admitting that she was for McCain!
This morning my wife was badly startled by an older, white male, who, after seeing the Obama bumper sticker, banged on her car window and yelled, "Obama freak!" as she sat in a drugstore parking lot!
There is hope, however. My white, accountant neighbor from across the street, who was sitting on the fence about who to vote for, came by yesterday to tell me that he had voted for Obama! Said it in a whisper, while wearing a halloween, skull mask. Claims there are a lot of closet Obama voters in our neighborhood.
My local liquor store owner, who happens to be from India, tells me that his whole family is voting for Obama. Says he's tired of going home to visit relatives and feeling ashamed of his adopted country.
So let's watch the landslide tomorrow. My 95 year old mother will be watching. My sister and I moved her here last week, so that she could die at home, with family, instead of in the assisted living section of her retirement community. She's holding on to watch Obama win tomorrow. She made me promise to drink a glass of wine with her after the great event.
With supporters like these, how can Obama/we lose?
