Some of you do not care what happens. Perhaps you are dyed-in-the-wool Socialists, and you hate Capitalism, and you would just as soon see the whole system collapse. But others of you still believe in the Free Enterprise System, Democracy, and our Constitution.
I'm addressing this plea to you.
We are at a crossroads in our country. A crossroads where we could go in an even more extremist direction than we have thus far. The Republican Party, aka the Tea Party, is trying to wrestle control of our government from everyone: Democrat and old-school Republican alike. They care even less about what happens to us than the hard-core Socialists among us, and they are the true and real threat.
Barack Obama is a moderate Democrat. He is trying to walk a middle path, not unlike the Middle Path propagated by Zen Buddhism. He is trying to find the balance between all sides in our Republic. He is on a tight-rope and will fall, if we do not come to his aid and support him now.
You do not have to agree with everything he does or how he does it, but you must understand, and realize, that he is still the best hope for pulling our country through the mess it is in today. Give him the four years that he needs to prove it!
None of you can possibly believe that a Tea Party-backed candidate would be better for our country than Barack Obama! It's not possible, unless there are as many equally, ideologically, insane people on the Left as there are on the Right. I can't believe that the same kind of immature, dysfunctional, narrow minded mentality dominates the Left, just as the Tea Party are trying to dominate the Right.
But if it does? If the extremists on the Left are holding sway on the left?
If we are that polarized between the two extremes, then "the center cannot hold" and we will spin off into a chaos; the likes of which have not been seen since the chaos and conflict of WW2.
I refuse to believe that the Left is just as unwilling to compromise as the Tea Party. But, if this be true? If the Left cannot see what good Obama is trying to do. If the Left cannot see the danger looming, then the Left, in this country, is as dangerous to it as the Right. And I shudder to think where our country is headed.
The Far Left has failed to rally to the Democratic Party in the past. Remember George Bush? The Left must bear some responsibility for him. Now, if the Left does not rally around Barack Obama, then the Left will have to bear some responsibility for the outcome.
Many of you will rage at me for saying what I'm saying. And you will, no doubt, come up with the usual diatribes in response to it. But, consider this. Would it be better to have a Moderate in the White House for four more years, or a Tea Party nutcase like Michele Bachmann? Are you so angry with the system, and the people running it, that you would be happy to tear the whole thing down, just like the Tea Party people would like to do?
And, those of you who have children and grandchildren, are you so sure that you would survive the conflict and chaos that would ensue if the Tea Party people got the ultimate power that they would like to have? You know what their platform is.
You know what happens when self-righteous extremists get power. Is that where you want us to go? And do you think you could win such a fight? And do you want your loved ones to suffer through such an experience, win or lose?
Think about it!
