WHY
YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA
I'm a retired 65 y/o male with a Working class background
who made it to the Middle class by getting a college education and working
hard. I owe a 30 yr mortgage on a small home.
Our child is grown. My wife and I
each worked over 35 yrs for different companies, earning above-average incomes,
benefits and pensions. We receive Social
Security. I'm on Medicare. My wife is
too young, so we are paying a lot for her private health insurance
because she has Diabetes and private health care companies penalize folks with
"pre-existing" conditions. I share this
information for a reason: to tell you
that our retirement years are more secure than many other folks -- we have a
roof over our heads, money to pay our mortgage, health care coverage, a car and
we can even afford to go out to eat now and then. We wouldn't be in such a fortunate position
if we did not have Social Security and Medicare to protect us.
My support of Barack Obama is not for my wife and
I, but because I am very concerned about our country, our daughter, her
husband, our grand-children, nieces, nephews, and for YOU and your own family. I want all of you to have the same
opportunities in life that we had, and to be safe, healthy and secure in your
retirement, as we are. I do not work for
either candidate or Political Party.
To begin, you should know that the Republican Party
is a Party of extreme Conservatives.
They represent Big Business and wealthy millionaires and billionaires in
the top 2% -- large companies and people who possess MOST of the wealth and
power in this country. Big Business
contributes millions of dollars to the Republican Party and spends millions on false
advertising. Big Business now controls
the Republican Party. Yes, Big Business does
play both sides of the street, contributing to Democrats as well, but far less.
The Republican Party looks out for the wealthy and
powerful, not for you. Don't take
my word for it. And definitely don't
take their word. Just pay close
attention to how Republican Representatives and Senators vote, compared to how
Democrats vote .
In the last
3 years Republican Congressmen, led by Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan, and Senators
led by John Boehner, have voted almost unanimously against every
Obama/Democratic Jobs Bill, against veterans, against equal pay for women. They want to get rid of Social Security,
Medicare, unions, unemployment benefits, etc.
And they desperately want to repeal Obamacare (The
Affordable Care Act) so they can keep health insurance in the hands of very
wealthy private insurance companies.
Those insurance companies contribute millions of dollars every year to
Republicans, and spend millions of dollars on advertising that is aimed at
scaring average Americans by calling Obamacare "Socialism." And they have been quite successful at
it.
Many Americans don't realize that Obamacare will be
much more affordable for themselves, provide more services, and will
cover "pre-existing conditions" that private health insurance companies
deny. "Socialized" health care is so
much better than private health care that every other modern nation in the
world except the United States provides it to their citizens. But the Republicans demonize it.
It is very difficult to obtain accurate,
unbiased information to help you make smart decisions. Not only is the Republican Party dishonest to
average Americans, but 90% of the media (television, radio, etc.) is owned and
controlled by just 6 large corporations.
They are Conservative, and look out for their own interests (Big
Business and the wealthy), not for the well-being of average working
Americans. The same goes for most political commercials that you see, and most
of the political mail, and emails that you receive.
One huge example is FOX News. FOX News is owned by Conservative billionaire
Rupert Murdoch. FOX pays folks like Bill
O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Gretchen Carlson, etc., to distort facts in favor of Republicans
like Mitt Romney. On the other hand,
MSNBC (Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Lawrence O'Donnell, etc.) made a decision to
provide honest information on their political shows that looks out for
the well-being of average working Americans. Let me be clear: I am not telling you this for selfish
reasons, but to inform you so you can make smart decisions that will benefit
you and your family. At least check out
more sources than FOX.
The difference between the wealthiest 2% of
Americans -- those who make from $250,00 a year to millions of dollars a year
-- compared to the other 98% of Americans is almost too enormous for average Americans to
believe. There is a bigger division
between the Wealthy Upper class in our country and other Americans than there
is in any other country in the world.
For example, the six individuals who inherited the Walmart fortune
possess as much as wealth as the entire bottom 30% of our American
population. Yet they pay their Walmart
workers an average of $9.00 an hour and make most of them work less than
full-time so they won't qualify for any employee benefits. (Half of all Walmart employees can't afford
health care coverage so they are forced to go on Medicaid, which we tax-payers
are stuck paying for instead of their wealthy Walmart owners. Is that fair to employees OR us tax-payers?)
The Democratic Party is composed of Conservatives,
Moderates and Liberals. Most members of
the Democratic Party look out for 98% percent of Americans, those who are in
the Middle class, the Working Class, the Working poor and the unemployed. Yes, BIG Business also tries to buy the
Democrats too, but so far the majority of Democrats look out for us.
When you vote for the President you are also voting
for their Political Party, so it is important to look at what each Party stands
for. The President is like the captain
of a large ship. With the help of
Congress he should try to steer the ship in the correct direction: to keep the country safe and financially
secure, to maintain our joint possessions -- like highways, bridges, school
system, libraries, highways, etc., -- to protect our rights and freedoms, to
protect our environment, to protect us from disasters, to provide a "safety
net" that protects our health and protects us from utter poverty, and to ensure
that all Americans are given a fair opportunity to become educated, become
employed and work hard to improve their well-being. At least that is what good political leaders
believe, what President Barack Obama and most Democrats believe and what I
believe.
Mitt Romney and the Republican Party don't share these
same beliefs or values.
Ever since Republican President Teddy Roosevelt
stood up to the wealthy and powerful owners of Big Business in the 1920's and
demanded that all Americans have a "Square Deal," and Democratic President FDR
stood up in the early 1940's and demanded for all Americans a "Fair Deal, the
Republican Party has worked to take away what Teddy Roosevelt and FDR gained
for us: the right to live decent secure lives
and have an opportunity to improve the well-being of ourselves and our children
if we work hard.
Many Americans don't seem to realize the enormous
difference that exists between our two current political Parties. They don't seem to realize that Ronald
Reagan, George Bush and now Mitt Romney have been trying to take away the
rights, freedoms and opportunities of average Americans -- to destroy the
"safety net" that protects us -- and to regain the enormous power and wealth of
Big Business and the wealthy.
