News coverage about the new vaccine to ostensibly prevent cervical cancer has been so focused on sex politics that the real debate has been ignored. What about its long-term safety? Does the state really have a compelling interest to mandate vaccines for a disease that isn't transmitted by casual contact? Do parents have any say in the health decisions for their adolescent girls? This is about much more than pre-marital sex.
