I don't take part in discussions any more, but I still check in from time to time to see what's going on here. You can read my comments to see what I believe. I'm a lifelong seeker of truth. I'd like to think I recognize a genuine article when I see it, which is why I try to spread the word when I find one. I don't talk about it much in my private life, though. I figure it's either self-righteous or presumptuous and insensitive to spout off in social circles about politics and religion. Besides, people learn at their own speed, find what they seek, and have their own muse. To each his own, I always say.
However, public debate is another thing, and whenever imposing, aggressive people are offensive in trying to gain political power (especially when it's in the name of religion), and then abuse power to cause trouble or harm or loss to others, then we have a duty to point that out and speak truth to power, honestly, fairly and reasonably, without being malicious or offensive.

Divided we have fallen, and we will remain hopelessly divided until we recognize a better way than fighting for power over each other -- a way that empowers each voter, a way that is not fueled by money, and a way that will give us free choice and equal opportunity rather than be faced with poor choices and poor opportunities. The founding fathers provided the key to open another door, should we need it. And we sorely do.

In 1967 Stephen Stills sang: "There's battle lines being drawn. Nobody's right if everybody's wrong. Young people speaking their minds, Getting so much resistance from behind. I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going down." Stephen saw the bloody confrontations of 1968 coming. Can we learn from history? Or will we continue to fight, thinking we are right?

Throughout history evil has masqueraded as good. Even today scoundrels take refuge in patriotism and hypocrites take refuge in religiosity. They indulge in their egocentric delusion, self-importance and self-righteousness, and they find ways to justify themselves and rationalize that they are doing the good and right thing, and usually do so in the name of patriotism and religion.

Can America ever become a truly good example to the world by being divided by partisan political conflict and competition for the "throne" of power? Or will we advance beyond fighting for power over each other, and establish government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people, and stand united? It is our choice to make.
