Electroconvulsive Therapy (a/k/a "Shock Treatment" has been used effectively in patient's with certain mental illnesses for years. The FDA is considering whether to reclassify it and make it harder to access. This could be dangerous for the elderly and pregnant women, since ECT is often the only treatment available to them.
