Japan should appreciate the importance of South Korea-Japan relations in keeping peace and stability in Northeast Asia and make a statement marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II that can console the minds of Korean by expressing a sincere apology for its actions committed during the colonial rule. As Dr Angela Merkel indicated, Japan should come clean on the wartime past.
