The CIA promotes the covert agenda of the US: to overthrow democracies, sabotage, assassinate. CIA has infiltrated socialist parties of France and Germany, and (surprisingly) most actively tilts journalism in Left journals like The Nation.

Roots of the War on Terror in the Reagan Regime
Since the 1950s, the US has alternately supported and decried ruthless Arab dictators, propping them up, only to incite revolutions against them in the following years. Gaddafi of Libya has been both our darling and a dreaded villain. We sent arms (incl nerve gas) to Saddam Hussein when he was fighting Iran. We sent guns and $ to the Taliban in Afghanistan. We gave more military aid to Mubarak than anyone else in the world.

A People's Uprising Against the Empire
More than the anti-Soviet protests of the late 1980s, the Egyptian uprisings reveal what might eventually come home to the empire itself. Under the right conditions, and at the right time, there might come a time when the consciousness will dawn right here at home. It could happen here for the same reason it could happen anywhere.
