Democrats used to fearlessly address poverty. Proud Democrats think of their connection to FDR's New Deal and LBJ's War on Poverty. Now the word "poverty" isn't even mentioned by our presidential ticket. The focus is on protecting the middle class, not tackling poverty. So it was Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan who gave a campaign speech on poverty, not the Democrats. How disappointing!
