Andrew Solomon's Far From the Tree has been widely praised in the media, even garnering an award. The problem is, the coverage I've seen has glaring omissions: Deafness isn't really mentioned, and Solomon's chapter on deafness is grossly biased and inaccurate. I'd like to introduce a new angle: as a deaf journalist with a Masters in Journalism from UC Berkeley, I wrote an op-ed in response. The other side needs to be told.
