Here's the problem: Representative governments are prone to corruption by big money. Your right to protest merely means your right to always play defensive. Your right to constantly beg, demand or bribe your "representative", as the constitution calls them, to actually be your representative - not your "leader" as the media promotes them. Thousands of "representatives", flooded with campaign money, golden perks and promises, tethered to the 1%, are unlikely to push for real campaign reform to negate the effects of lobbying and the Citizens United decision. Nor does corporate, main stream media want to outlaw billions of political advertising dollars.
Here's the simple solution: The constitution provides a non violent way to replace itself and preserve continuity. We are only two states away from the 34 state call needed to trigger a mandatory constitutional convention.
In the past, without instant communication, delegating representatives was the only way day to day voting could happen. That is no longer true. An electronic congress of we, the people, securely voting by internet and phone, would be truly representative. Bribes, to be effective would have to be paid to the entire electorate. Lobbying, open or secret, wouldn't exist.
It's that simple.
