The Errors of "Young Earth
There are many articles you will find about creationism, written by those that are
unqualified to speak on the subject. What do you believe creationism is? Most
people, I have found, will say that creationism is the belief that God created this
Earth and universe in six days, only 6000 years ago, and that mankind began
with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
People are not properly informed. The description given above only belongs to
one of the many factions of creationism, namely "young Earth (YEC), which is
actually the group called Creation Science (Scientific Creationism). It alone
holds the view that all creation is only 6,000 years old. It just so happens that
YEC has the loudest mouth, and appears to be the most popular. However, YEC
does not agree with the Bible, is full of errors to the point that it embraces
foolishness.
YEC claims to believe in "literal interpretation of scripture , and that the six
days in Genesis chapter one are a narrative of the Six Days of Creation Week.
Both claims are false, but we will discover that later. However, to expose
some of the errors and hypocrisy of YEC, we'll examine the first, fifth, and
sixth days of Genesis chapter one.
Genesis 1:2 says "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was
upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters . I have often written YEC leaders and groups, and they never can
answer the following three questions: 1) where did the water come from on
the first day, 2) were the birds made before mankind on the fifth day, or after
mankind on the sixth day, and 3) why is male & female of mankind made
together at the same time after the animals in chapter one, and Adam made
first, then the animals, then Eve in chapter two?
They all dance around the questions at first, and when you nail them down to
adhering to literal interpretation, they will either try to redefine the scriptures,
or stop corresponding with you altogether, and run and hide.
With question one, some of the answers I've gotten are "He did it with Gen. 1:1 ,
or that it appeared when the universe was created (before the first day). None
of those responses hold water. If they can point to when and where God
created light, why can't they do the same about the appearance of (the body of)
water? Why was it dark? Since God is Light, and in Him is no darkness,
where did God have to travel in order to find a place that was dark", and
had oceans of water? "Order out of chaos doesn't fly!! That chaos would
have to have an origin! Finding of fact: YEC has no understanding of the first
day in Genesis.
With question two, they agree that the birds were made on day five (what else
can they say?), but for chapter two, they "redefine the scriptures to mean that
God presented the birds to Adam on the sixth day which God "had formed on
the fifth day. What gibberish!! What happened to literal interpretation? In
chapter two, Genesis 2:18 clearly says that Adam was alone, and God was
going to create other life forms to keep him company. So the birds were made,
along with the land animals, after Adam was formed. So where is the integrity
of doctrine? Genesis is both sound and correct. It is the teachings of YEC
that are in error. Finding of fact: YEC does not understand the relationship
between chapters one and two of Genesis.
With question three, YEC takes leave of their senses, and says that the writer
puts the sixth day "in more focus , in order to explain the apparent contradiction.
I don't care how much focus or magnification you use on history, the sequence
of events do not change. Did the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor before the U.S.
declared war on Japan, or after the U.S. declared war? Use all the focus you
want"., but in no way under Heaven can we devise that Japan attacked Pearl
Harbor after the U.S. declared war. To do so would be a misrepresentation
of the facts of history. Is the writer of Genesis falsifying history? Is he writing
a contradicting myth? Or is YEC in error? Finding of fact: YEC does not
understand Genesis, and misrepresents the Word of God, which causes the
secular world to lose trust in the Bible, and to believe that early Genesis contains
"creation myths .
Final analysis: young Earth creationism (Creation Science) is mired in a delusion,
does not teach the truth of Genesis, and should be discarded. As far as scientific
reality is concerned, YEC foolishly teaches that the geologic layers of trilobites
and dimetrodons (245 Million BC), the dinosaurs (65 Million BC), and Ice Age
mammals (10,000 BC), were all laid down at once (together) with the flood of
Noah, which occurred in 2611 BC. Science knows that is false. Therefore
YEC has no credibility, both in the secular world, and in the biblical arena. Their
catch-all alibi is "radiometric dating can't be trusted . However, by their
misrepresentation of Genesis, their teachings can't be trusted either.
Part two (of three) will examine the doctrines of "old Earth creationism.
