( Earth ) www.DeadHorses.org, a lively wiki-format community engagement Web site dedicated to increasing awareness and stimulating positive action to address human learning dysfunction, was formally launched today by the Earth-based Dead Horses Project, a not-for-profit organization and foundation dedicated to positive and productive learning and change on our beautiful planet Earth.
Created as --“an expanding catalogue of Earthly dysfunction,” www.deadhorses.org invites people from all walks of life – including teachers, students, scholars, writers, bloggers and ordinary residents of Earth – to visit the site, identify their favorite Dead Horse and make a posting on the site that will inspire others to take positive action.
As noted on the Web site, a Dead Horse is defined as a human behavior that:
• Does not provide the effect or benefit that it was intended to provide (in simple terms, it doesn’t work!)
• People keep doing anyway even though it doesn’t really work,
• Produces actual harm to people and / or the planet upon which we live
“The inspiration for this project was a quotation by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who said, ‘There is nothing wrong with the world than cannot be fixed using what’s right with the world,’” says Dead Horses founder David Chard. “All positive change begins with awareness, and we hope that the Dead Horses Project can be the starting point of increased awareness of important areas where human learning is stalled, and an encouragement to those who want to make a positive difference for our planet and its residents. Essentially it is about harnessing the power of human imagination and positive action,” he stated.
Plans for the Dead Horses Project include:
The Annual Dead Horse Awards, a yearly event to honor the best contributions to the site, featuring judges from the Dead Horse Advisory Board and special guest celebrities to emcee the award event.
The Annual Noble Steed Social Engagement Awards, featuring cash awards from participating corporate and individual sponsors to recognize the most impactful and imaginative CSR projects and programs that effectively address Dead Horses identified on the www.deadhorses.org site.
The Dead Horses Foundation is being established as a not-for-profit organization and foundation, dedicated to positive and productive human learning and change on our beautiful planet Earth. It is open to constructive, non-violent participation by anyone who would rather make a difference than stand around and complain. Dead Horses is not directly affiliated with any organization, institution, political party, religion or belief system and takes no stand on political issues. Rather, Dead Horses is itself a stand for the possibilities of the human spirit and supports any intelligent and non-violent use of human capacities to shape and create a better world for all residents of Earth.
