I’m from Arizona, a state that has had more than one female governor, so we know about and like our women leaders and how they get things done, usually.
This got me thinking about state governors, specifically about Governor Janet Napolitano, here in Arizona and about Governor Sarah Palin, from the interesting state of Alaska. I watched them on an old Charlie Rose Show online. He interviews men in a more professional way, I must say.
The main difference between the two women on that show was vocabulary and speaking technique. I'm sure that you know my preference.
Let’s go back to high school where Janet Napolitano was voted most likely to succeed based upon her strong academic and life moves and where Sarah Palin was nicknamed Sarah Barracuda for her strong sports and life moves. Those highschool portraits have held over the years.
Gov. Palin started her college work at the University of Idaho where she studied journalism and poli-sci and took a long time to graduate, and is said to have attended five different institutes of higher learning, but we moms do that, take a long time to study and graduate and it ain’t easy. What she studied however, did not prepare her for her future jobs, except for that one on television.
Gov. Napolitano attended Santa Clara University and then the U. of Virginia Law School on a Truman Scholarship. She was always at the top of her classes and in leadership positions amongst her peers. She excelled at everything she did, preparing her very well for her future careers.
Napolitano’s career followed her law work to its highest point, the Arizona Governorship and its two Democratic terms in a Republican state, at that. Palin’s career followed whatever Alaska offered to a beautiful woman who liked the limelight and who had obscure standards to uphold and a desire to change the status quo when it seemed convenient or was forced upon her. She went from t.v. sportscaster to mayor to governor, admitting that none of what she did was rocket science and fairly easy for anyone to do.
Gov. Sarah Palin runs on a “hardcore fiscal conservative” speech, but votes differently and spends fairly haphazardly and irresponsibly if one reads her spending priorities. She earmarked more than 20 times what Obama did for his larger in population state of Illinois.
