Hello friends
Tonight I watched Washington Week in review. Being Boeing-funded, it was slanted, as usual.
I was pleased to see that they covered the habeas corpus issue, at length. They also showed McCain stating that this is "one of the worst decisions in America's history" or something very close to that (I regret that I did not jot down the exact words, so I am quoting to the best of my memory). I believe those words are going to come back to haunt him, and will lose him a lot of support. Good!
It's all the more a case for not going by outward impressions, but for checking the Congressional voting record. So many people ---even liberals---have told me that McCain would never vote for torture, because he himself was tortured.
Well, question assumptions.
Not only did McCain vote for torture, granting Bush and future Prez's immunity from prosecution as a war criminal while the Prez unilaterally "interprets" the Geneva Conventions and the US Constitution (Military Commissions Act)----but McCain also specifically voted against restoration of Habeas Corpus (Sen. Chris Dodd's "Restore the Constitution Act"). So much for outward appearances, belief-based voting, etc...check the voting record!
We heard it out of his mouth. There can be no more argument: McCain, a former Prisoner of War, stands in support of torture and calls the Supreme Court's striking down the Military Commissions Act as unconstitutional, "one of the worst decisions in American history". PLEASE PASS THIS ON!!
And thank you, Washington Week in Review, for the honest disclosure. Good!
But where I was disgusted was that they censored the 35 articles of impeachment as brought to the floor by Kucinich. Not even a word about it. Instead, they chose to spend lots of air time gossipping about OBama and his wife. How informative! Above all, how helpful.
Please write Gwen Ifill and Washington Week in Review, reprimanding them for standing complicit with....a strike against Iran, as announced by Israeli Radio to be planned by Bush for the next couple months ahead of us....our kids dying for more lies....torture....gag orders (Patriot Act) with great unilateral FBI powers.....free speech attacks (see the ACLU's website for numerous examples).....200,000 National Security Letters issued between 2003-2006, 53% of which were for Americans, with only ONE terrorist caught, according to the ACLU and former FBI agent Mike German....ETC! As witnessed by their support of Bush, The Great Dictator. Because obviously, if they did not support Bush, they would show the articles of impeachment.
Any news media has to be unbiased for credibility's sake. Please tell Gwen Ifill that this strategic blunder and censorship of free speech discredits her show as an unbiased source of news. http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/feedback.html
How can Gwenn Ifill's conscience permit her to censor this matter, considering all that is at stake? To hell with Boeing and other sponsors. When life and WW III hang in the balance, you'd better believe you do what all of us here are willing to do: Rock the boat. Lose jobs. So what! What's more important: A job or lives by the hundreds of thousands, maybe more?
Please write Gwen and tell her that you are not going to watch Washington Week in Review until they really, truly review ALL that is going on in Washington...especially, when no less than thirty-five articles of impeachment for the US President are filed. What kind of "Washington week in review" is that, when something that historical is omitted?
Please tell her you are not only going to boycott the show---a show it really is----but also that you are going to spread word on the Internet, in letters to the editor, chain emails, etc. http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/feedback.html
Please also write a letter of complaint to your local newspaper editor, and show a hard copy to Gwen. Try also the college editors and smaller newspapers, who are more likely to print it. Enclose your printed newspaper letter with a sympathy card for the US Constitution and sign it with the signature of yourself and other like-minded friends. If you have time, you might even consider tabling in front of Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, asking for signatures and thus informing people of what they are not being told (Kucinich's impeachment articles). Lord knows how many signatures you would get. It would be interesting to see at least, eh?
Thank you.
