WINCHESTER, INDIANA— Randolph County Clerk Claudia Thornburg said Voting Technologies International, the county’s election equipment vendor, apparently has gone out of business.

A former employee of VTI called the clerk last week to report that he and the rest of the company’s employees had been let go.

“From the best we can tell they no longer exist, so we have no support for our equipment,” Thornburg said.

Last spring, primary results weren’t finalized until 40 hours after the polls closed.

In November, new problems surfaced when vote totals didn’t add up, and in at least some areas, it appeared too many votes were cast compared to the number of people who actually voted.
