Who Filched the Testimonies Supporting Hawaii's HB 2680 Bill to ban Aspartame?
I know everyone is eager to know what went on in Hawaii: Nothing yet. A great deal of effort was applied by victims with their stories and physicians who sent the scientific evidence that aspartame isn't safe to Hawaii Health Committee Chairman, Rep Josh Green, M.D., and Vice Chair, Rep. John Mizuno, with copies to the entire committee.
At the meeting there were a handful of arguments from the other side
and some testimonies of victims. None of the excellent testimony of
physician experts and scientists was read. They had been sent but
mysteriously disappeared!
This was posted on the legislature's website:
who have been affected by the artificial sweetener aspartame, he was
unable to immediately pass a bill that would ban the artificial sweetener aspartame in food products without concrete evidence showing a connection between aspartame and medical ailments. We can't take numerous amounts of products off Hawaii store shelves without evidence of a connection, he said."
So voting on the bill has been deferred until Wednesday, February 13. Dr. Green would like about 400 letters from physicians, scientists and professionals (quite a raising of the hurdle for vicitms and physicians, eh?) We have many physicians on our list and we ask that all write and pass this request on to their lists of physicians as well.
I'm also asking that all victims on our Aspartame Information List on www.mpwhi.com write as well as those on the Mission Possible lists. We can get this done. Every letter counts. This is being sent to other lists too. Doctors who have done studies on aspartame should give the URL or web site to that study. Anything over 5 pages must be faxed.

Today James Turner, the renowned consumer attorney and former Nader
Raider who fought against the approval of aspartame with neuroscientist Dr. John Olney explained: "The toxicity of this deadly carcinogen is well known.
The FDA not only refused to approve aspartame for years, but asked the Department of Justice to indict G.D. Searle, the manufacturer, for submitting fraudulent test reports to get the poison approved. The evidence was overwhelming and Searle's case was impossible to defend, so their attorneys seduced the federal prosecutors, Sam Skinner and Wm. Conlon, who negotiated for jobs with Searle's lawyers while they were supposed to
prosecuting Searle!
Before switching sides they stalled until the statute of limitations was about to run out so Searle couldn't be prosecuted later. Justice died, as have thousands of aspartame victims in the 25 years since.
